
Maruti Suzuki India Limited proudly commemorates 20 years of the Swift hatchback, with sales surpassing an incredible 30 lakh units in India. The Swift was introduced way back in May 2005 and has since become crucial in the brand’s lineup, evolving through four generations. Frequently updated features and broad appeal have catapulted it favorably among car buyers nationwide with tremendous success.
Since its debut, the Swift has attracted over 30 lakh customers in India, cementing its reputation as a beloved and enduring hatchback. The model presently commands a sizeable 31% market share in its segment and contributes over 10% to MSIL’s overall sales figures. One in four Swift buyers goes back and buys another Swift, underscoring strong brand loyalty among its devoted customer base.
The Swift underwent four major updates over twenty years while retaining its essence as a stylish, fun hatchback. The first-generation Swift, unveiled in 2005, made a striking entry into the Indian automotive scene with its fresh and audacious design. Second-generation engineers focused on reducing overall weight and significantly improving drivability by 2011. By 2018, the third generation incorporated cutting-edge technology and stayed in lockstep with consumers’ ever-shifting needs.
The Swift’s current fourth-generation model starts at ₹6.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and packs a 1.2-litre Z-series petrol engine churning out 80 hp and 117 Nm torque effortlessly. Buyers have options for manual or automatic transmission, and a CNG variant exists for enhancing fuel efficiency.
