KTM India‘s latest teaser hints at a new motorcycle that everyone thinks will be the KTM 160 Duke. This new streetfighter will become the brand’s most affordable model, taking the place of the now-discontinued 125 Duke. With this launch, KTM is gearing up to enter the fiercely competitive 160cc category with a more powerful and performance-driven option. KTM’s 125 Duke, while the most affordable option in KTM’s range, was a sales dud because of its value-for-money perception. KTM aims to address this issue with the 160 Duke by improving performance, value, and deepening the brand’s aesthetic appeal. The 160 Duke will be built on the second-generation KTM 200 Duke and will also have 43mm USD front forks, a trellis frame, a rear monoshock, dual-channel ABS, and a digital LCD display. The bike’s aggressive streetfighter styling will showcase full LED lighting, pronounced tank extensions, and bold new graphics to stand out in the segment. Equipping the bike is a new single-cylinder 160cc engine, KTM’s new 160 Duke, which is expected to produce between 19 to 20bhp. Also, the bike competes almost directly with the Yamaha MT-15, which is producing 18.4 bhp. This new engine is expected to greatly increase the bike’s power from the old model, the 125 Duke’s 14.5 bhp. The 160 Duke stands apart from KTM’s global lineup, as it has been developed exclusively for the Indian market. To keep the pricing in check, KTM is using the Gen-2 200 Duke chassis, which is cheaper than the Gen-3, alongside local production. The official launch is expected to be right around the festive season. It features a rear LED taillight with a distinctive design and clip-on-style handlebars adorned with mirrors fixed at the bar ends. Other components mostly resemble those of the Speed 400. Hero MotoCorp has abruptly axed its flagship bike, the Hero Mavrick 440, in a shock move, ending its brief stint in India suddenly. Dealers across Maharashtra have stopped accepting bookings, signaling the fading presence of a certain bike in various obscure markets already. Hero hasn’t dispatched a single Mavrick 440 unit in three months, telling a rather more ominous story evidently now. Sales struggled mightily before production ground to a halt, barely crossing three digits and underscoring the underwhelming market performance of this bike. The Mavrick 440, launched a few years back, was built on the same platform as the Harley-Davidson X440 — a bike garnering relatively more traction lately. Mavrick faltered mainly due to lackluster marketing and a design that utterly failed to kindle enthusiasm among aficionados and thrill-seekers alike. The Mavrick 440 was, quite arguably, one of the finest machines Hero had ever painstakingly developed over several years under extremely tight deadlines. It boasted a peppy engine and smooth ride quality, with a suspension setup that made city jaunts and long highway treks surprisingly comfy. VinFast Opens First EV Assembly Plant in India, Eyes Major Global Expansion

VinFast, a Vietnamese EV maker, has launched its first assembly facility in India, located at the Sipcot Industrial Park in Tamil Nadu. VinFast’s global growth strategy hits a key milestone with this plant—their third operational facility and first outside Vietnam—in the emerging EV landscape. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin signed the first VF7 electric SUV assembled at the new site during the inauguration ceremony. The state-of-the-art plant sprawls across 400 acres, featuring advanced automation and encompassing a body shop, paint shop, and assembly line with a quality control center, logistics zone, and auxiliary area supporting local suppliers heavily. VinFast expects the facility to create between 3,000 and 3,500 direct jobs and many more through supply chain networks, fueling Tamil Nadu’s economic development. Kicking off with the VF6 and VF7 models, the plant boasts an annual output of 50,000 vehicles, with scalable infrastructure ready to triple capacity to 150,000 units. According to VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau, the Tamil Nadu plant represents a major milestone and a strategic foundation for the company’s sustained presence in India. VinFast closely collaborates with the state government, envisioning Thoothukudi as South Asia’s EV capital. Ather 450S Now Available with 3.7 kWh Battery for ₹1.46 Lakh — Offers 161 km Range

Ather Energy has launched a new variant of the Ather 450S electric scooter in India, now sporting a fairly large 3.7 kWh battery pack. Ather’s entry-level scooter gets a new variant priced at a relatively high ₹1.46 lakh (ex-showroom), but it does offer a substantial range boost.The launch follows the debut of the Ather Rizta featuring the same battery capacity. The new variant pretty much bridges the gap between the 450S sporting a 2.9 kWh battery pack and the higher-end 450X model boasting a 3.7 kWh battery. The upgraded battery significantly boosts the IDC-certified range to 161 km versus the previous 115 km range of the 2.9 kWh version, notably. Performance figures remain largely unchanged anyway. A 5.4 kW motor still powers the electric scooter, remarkably producing 22 Nm of torque, enabling a 90 km/h top speed and achieving 0–40 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Riders have four riding modes available: Smart Eco mode, Eco, Ride, and Sport mode, essentially offering varying degrees of performance. The Ather 450S 3.7 kWh model comes with the Ather Eight70 warranty covering 8 years or 80,000 km, assuring at least 70 percent battery health throughout the warranty period. Bookings are currently available through Ather’s official website and retail outlets, with deliveries scheduled to start in August 2025. Despite the upgraded battery, the scooter maintains its original dimensions and sharp, sporty design, complete with 12-inch wheels. It still comes equipped with a 7-inch LCD screen offering turn-by-turn navigation and continues to support AtherStack’s OTA software updates efficiently.
