Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin signed the first VF7 electric SUV assembled at the new site during the inauguration ceremony. The state-of-the-art plant sprawls across 400 acres, featuring advanced automation and encompassing a body shop, paint shop, and assembly line with a quality control center, logistics zone, and auxiliary area supporting local suppliers heavily. VinFast expects the facility to create between 3,000 and 3,500 direct jobs and many more through supply chain networks, fueling Tamil Nadu’s economic development. Kicking off with the VF6 and VF7 models, the plant boasts an annual output of 50,000 vehicles, with scalable infrastructure ready to triple capacity to 150,000 units. VinFast’s goal entails reaching 200,000 global sales by 2025 and producing a staggering 1 million electric vehicles every year by 2030. According to VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau, the Tamil Nadu plant represents a major milestone and a strategic foundation for the company’s sustained presence in India. He stressed its potential for delivering top-notch, affordable EVs primarily to Indian buyers and growing substantially into VinFast’s biggest export hub. VinFast closely collaborates with the state government, envisioning Thoothukudi as South Asia’s EV capital. Tesla officially kickstarts operations in India with the launch of its first Supercharger station at One BKC in Mumbai, scheduled for August 4, 2025. The upcoming Supercharger site boasts four V4 stalls with DC fast charging capabilities and four Destination Charging stalls with AC charging. Fast chargers offer a peak output of 250 kW at a cost of ₹24 per kWh. AC chargers provide up to 11 kW at merely ₹11 per kWh. With the new V4 Superchargers, the Tesla Model Y can recharge up to 267 km of driving range in just 15 minutes—equivalent to five round trips between the airport and the Gateway of India in Mumbai. Tesla owners simply plug in their EVs, and charging updates appear promptly on the Tesla mobile app, with stall availability clearly displayed. The Tesla Model Y is available in India in two variants: the standard rear-wheel-drive version priced at ₹59.89 lakh and the long-range RWD model costing ₹67.89 lakh. These cost ₹61.07 lakh and ₹69.15 lakh respectively, including on-road charges. The RWD variant comes with a 60 kWh battery or a 75 kWh battery, featuring a single electric motor that delivers roughly 295 hp. The 60 kWh version purportedly boasts a WLTP range of up to 500 km, while the long-range model ostensibly delivers a whopping 622 km on a full charge.
